The Western Pension & Benefits Council - Denver Chapter invites you to its November luncheon, "How the Supreme Court's Decision on DOMA Affects Employee Benefits for Same-Sex Spouses," presented by Mark Bodron of Baker Botts L.L.P.
On June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court overturned Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (“DOMA”). As a result, same-sex couples who are legally married under state law are entitled to be recognized as spouses for purposes of federal law. This seminar will review the impact on employee benefit plans in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling on DOMA as well as subsequent guidance from federal agencies. It also will discuss what sponsors of employee benefit plans should be doing now in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling and subsequent guidance.
