The Presentation


The Department of Labor (DOL) recently issued new guidance regarding lifetime income illustrations in defined contribution (DC) plans which take effect in 2021 and 2022. This presentation will cover lifetime income generally, the new DOL guidance, as well as rules for electronic disclosures.

  • Review and understand requirements for electronic disclosures (IRS & DOL)
  • Review and understand the new "lifetime income" illustrations requirements for DC plans, including recent DOL guidance
  • Analysis of the new requirements (both from a legal and actuarial standpoint) and best practices to comply

Sherrie Boutwell, Boutwell Fay, LLP  


Sherrie Boutwell has focused for thirty years in

the areas of employee benefits law and ERISA,

with an emphasis on retirement and deferred

compensation plans. She advises and counsels

a broad range of clients, including employers,

employees, plan fiduciaries, financial institutions,

government agencies and trade associations, on

a wide range of employee benefits matters.

Sherrie has extensive experience and is a highly

sought-after speaker, writer, and advisor on

employee benefits topics.


Benjamin Goodman, TIAA


Benjamin (aka Benny) Goodman is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He is a Vice President in the Produce Solution and Distribution unit at TIAA, serving as a subject matter expert on lifetime income.


Benny has been with TIAA since 1988 and has served in a variety of actuarial positions, including life insurance pricing, pension plan pricing, product development, and dividend setting. In addition, for several years, he managed the Actuarial Consulting Services area with a focus on pension plan design and meeting individual retirement income needs. Benny also has spent time in non-actuarial roles, including nonstandard governance and employee resource requirements.


He earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Touro College. Benny has co-authored several papers for the TIAA Institute and has been a featured speaker at college and university seminars and events across the country. Benny is married to Yvette (a retired actuary currently teaching high school mathematics) and is the proud father of four and grandfather of the six most adorable grandchildren in the world (pictures upon request).
