A Deep Dive on RMDs
Required minimum distributions are possibly the most universal rule for tax-favored retirements. They impact qualified plans, 403(b) plans, 457(b) plans, and IRAs. They were also the focus of two key provisions of the SECURE Act, which are in effect now. This webinar will provide an in depth discussion, filled with examples, about RMDs in general (with a focus on defined contribution arrangements and IRAs) and show how the SECURE Act and recent IRS proposals impact distributions during the participant’s lifetime and after the participant’s death. The program will be filled with concrete examples so you can see how the rules work in practical situations. Topics include:
Derrin is an independent ERISA attorney and educator in Santa Barbara, California with over 36 years of experience in dealing with retirement plans. In addition to his solo practice, Derrin is Of Counsel to the Ferenczy Benefits Law Center. Previously, he worked with FIS with their Relius line of educational programs and products. There he assisted in drafting qualified, 403(b), 457(b), 409A, and other plan documents and forms, and taught and wrote extensively about all aspects of retirement planning.
Derrin received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from BYU and in 1980 he graduated from UCLA Law School. In 2006, ASPPA awarded Derrin its Educator’s Award for his work in providing professional education to plan practitioners. Derrin is a Senior Editor of the Journal of Pension Benefits and has authored the 7th edition of “Who’s the Employer”.
